Natural Hand Sanitizers

Hand sanitizer has never been more in demand. However, it’s important to be wary when buying sanitizers. Many of the store bought sanitizers contain harmful ingredients. They more often than not contain Parabens and synthetic fragrances, which are harmful to us. Therefore, the more we use them, the more damage we cause to our skin and our health.

Hand sanitizers are formulated with alcohol as the main active ingredient. Ethanol, isopropyl alcohol, or n-propanol are the most commonly used alcohols in hand sanitizers. While alcohol is effective in killing harmful bacteria and viruses, it can also cause skin dryness, irritation, and even chemical burns with repeated use. The excessive use of hand sanitizers can strip the skin of its natural oils, leading to dry, flaky, and itchy skin.

Most store bought sanitizers use alcohol as the antibacterial agent, and they need to contain 60% alcohol to be effective. For this reason alone it should have limited use, especially with children. How often do they put their hands in their mouths throughout the day? The symptoms of alcohol consumption from ingesting hand sanitizer are vomiting, drowsiness and confusion, and it may even lead to respiratory issues.

You don’t need alcohol to kill bacteria and viruses. There’s plenty of natural ingredients that can be used.

Just wash your hands…

Natural hand sanitizers are just as efficient at killing bacteria and viruses as the more commercial retail store sanitizers. Obviously, washing your hands with soap and water is always best. It’s been proven that washing your hands for 30 seconds with warm water and soap, is just as effective as antibacterial sanitizers. These sanitizers are for when we can’t get to the sink.
