Apple and Strawberry Crumble
low Carbs, low sugar
This apple and strawberry crumble is low in carbs and low in sugar. You could quite easily make it sugar-free, but I think a little demerara sugar always makes a good crumble topping.
Crumble has always been one of my favourites, but it’s loaded with sugar and carbohydrates. In this recipe I have cut them down but kept the taste. You can quite easily make it completely sugar and carb free. I’ll show you how below.
- Easy to make
- Prep. time 10 mins
- Bake time 25-30 mins
- Serves 6
- Approx. 23g carbs per slice
ingredients
3 cooking apples
Handful strawberries cut into halves
90g plain four
85g ground almonds or almond flour
40g demerara sugar
100g butter
To make a carb free and sugar free version. Replace plain flour with ground almonds/almond flour, and switch the 40g demerara sugar for 20g of sugar alternative. You want a coarse one like erythritol. Or, I like to use a brown sugar alternative. When making it completely sugar-free, I like to mix the brown sugar alternative with some erythitol. You don’t need as much sugar, when making this version as we get some sweetness from the almonds.
method
step 1:
Add flour, ground almonds, butter, sugar alternative and sugar to a bowl. Mix and rub together using fingertips until it forms a breadcrumbs consistency.
Add a sprinkle of cinnamon and mix in (optional)
Put to one side

step 2:
Peel and chop apples. Place chopped apples and strawberries into a 10″x 7″ oven dish.
step 3:
Sprinkle a little cinnamon over the apples (as pictured)

step 4:
Add crumble topping to apples and strawberries, and spread evenly over the top.

step 5:
Bake at 180C in the middle of the oven for 25-30 minutes.
To keep the carbs and sugar low, why not serve it with double cream.
Enjoy!
